One Class Act

Grudgingly spent Saturday afternoon in school. Good thing our professor brought food -- karekare, fried tilapia, even padthai. It may have been a bribe to haul our butts to class, but the act worked! More than half of us arrived --- a feat, considering the obstacles (and we won't go into that). A classmate took pictures of the one-time (and hopefully, never-to-be-repeated) weekend make-up class. A full stomach and an early dismissal cheered us up enough to ham it up before the camera.

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

THE GOOD: Got hold of a bootleg dvd copy of The Holiday. THE BAD: Midway into watching the second scene, I noticed that the audio wasn't in sync with the video. But hey, this thing has Jude Law, Cameron Diaz and Kate Winslet on it. I thought I can stand it even if I hear their voices 5 seconds after their mouths open. I said to myself, "No problem. It's just like thunder and lightning." THE UGLY: Was intently watching the scene where Cameron and Jude first met. Suddenly, after they impulsively kiss, Cameron started speaking in French! I swear I stared at the screen for awhile, wondering if it was still part of the script. I mean, hey, I can totally dig it if it means Jude's kiss is that powerful. Am I right, ladies? Hehehe. But then Jude started speaking in French too! I scrambled for the remote and clicked Languages --- Russian, Korean, Chinese, English --- all French now. Now THAT'S JUST PLAIN UGLY.

and I thought it was a movie about tires

first read about "a good year" late last year. thought at first it was a movie about tires. hehehe. then i heard it starred my favorite gladiator, russell crowe. finally saw the movie on dvd. was pleasantly surprised to learn it was the male version of "under the tuscan sun". although the diane lane flick was much much better (am i right, ladies?). but i generally liked the movie since russell crowe tried to be funny in it. he was still scary in some scenes -- showing a slight beer gut and all. i especially adored the scene where he fell in the waterless pool and he was doing everything to get to his cellphone which he dropped at the top edge of the pool. had a flashback of an old news item about crowe throwing his cellphone at a hotel clerk. i hope he had a hard time doing that scene. take that, you hotheaded man!
still, the movie was still worth one bowl of popcorn... if i had one at that time.

they're playing our song

the movie "music & lyrics" is a lot like the musical "they're playing our song" -- a songwriting team, funny dialogue, mushy and cheesy songs, etc. what the latter doesn't have however, is hugh grant -- 80's pop star. the man must be near 50 by now but, geez, he still has the charm to carry a rom-com movie, and he still has a few surprises up his sleeve -- including the vocal pipes to sing! first heard him sing in "about a boy" but did anyone imagine he'd agree to play an 80's has-been? "music & lyrics" is darn entertaining because of dear old hugh. plus, he must be all over the movie soundtrack. i swear, i still can't get that catchy "pop, goes my heart" out of my head!

lo waist gang with the high waist man

Attended a lecture by Dr. Miller last week. My trigger-happy classmate invited the man to have a picture with us. Never realized how short we all were till I saw this picture. Never realized how high his waist was either till I noticed the top of Lorna's head was only a few inches higher than his belt. Good thing though that the distance of his belt from his shoes (nor gravity) doesn't have anything to do with how smart he is. Hehehe.

A post-Valentine (minus a valentine) - Chinese new year's eve (minus Chinese pal Huangcholi) -short break from all things school-related (minus survey stress) movie and dinner date with Gladys and Chet. Watched Music & Lyrics (film review to follow). Chet treated us to a Figaro dinner (food review to follow) after her Figaro event (see her pic w/ Figaro inflated man). Hugh Grant. Hughge appetite. All in all, a pretty good Saturday.

Old S.S.D. ... NEW SURVEY

Hello, people! Just had a relapse of Survey Stress Disease. I made a NEW, revised version of the old survey I posted yesterday. I know I already infected a couple of people with S.S.D. (e.g. those who already answered the old survey --- I thank you guys, you know who you are) but please bear with me by answering this new version I am posting NOW, as in TODAY.
Just remember, answering my survey brings me one step closer to complete recovery. No need to send me flowers, completed surveys will do. Thank you so much!

First ever recorded SSD

It is official. I am the very first statistic of a newly discovered strain of a stress-related virus -- the S.S.D. (short for Survey Stress Disease). Doctors from the C.D.C. will be arriving in white protective gear tomorrow.

5th anniversary of my 29th birthday

Hello world! I woke up to the alarm of my biological clock this morning. Wonderful. I have never been one to write a diary but I am starting this blog today, initially out of necessity, but hopefully... eventually... something remarkable comes out of this. Although I woke up on the pessimistic side of the bed this morning, I promise to wake up optimistic tomorrow... or sleep on the floor from now on. Hehehe.
