Looking for Bantay

Had to take some pictures of native dogs for a class presentation of our research paper on PAWS. Was sad to note that the dogs on the streets are mostly Pinoy askals. Was ashamed to admit that I had to bring an umbrella to shoo away the askals just in case they come after me. Was a bit amused to see some of our neighbors looking at me curiously. Kala siguro nila dognapper ako out to get Bantay and cook him for dinner. Ngeh.
Picture on the left is a neighbor's Bantay. Thanks for the free pictorial. Hehehe.

When reality meets real life

Been watching PBB for a couple of weeks now. Been using this reality show to relax and de-stress after doing my comm tech paper and researching on our comm eval paper on PAWS. Was so surprised when PAWS appeared on PBB to promote animal welfare. Small world talaga. Hehehe.
Picture on the right is a dog kennel made by the PBB housemates for PAWS.

It's Raining Men

Caught the first few episodes of Men in Trees. I like it. It's very witty. It's like Sex and the City meets Gilmore Girls meets Northern Exposure (although I think I'm the only one who remembers this old show). I found the title intriguing.... and disturbing. Would "men in trees" look like monkeys? Hehehe.

My brother got SkyCable to hook up the 24-hour livestream access to Pinoy Big Brother. Talk about life in a fishbowl. Talk about nothing better to do but watch people who live in a fishbowl. Talk about watching 5 MEN TAKING A SHOWER TOGETHER. Yup, that's what my mom and I were watching late last night. Yup, ME AND MY MOM. Too bad the shot was only from the waist up (although I did manage to see that the guys were wearing swimwear). Too bad the camera was outside the shower stall. Too bad that after watching them shower together for less than a minute, the supposedly "all access livestream" was suddenly cut off, and the Big Bro logo appeared on the tv screen. Chairman Laguardia must have the 24-hour access too, I guess.

Idol!

So I guess there won't be a Fil-Am finalist in American Idol this season. Let's just wait for World Idol (meron pa ba nun?). At least we will have an entry this time.
P.S. The pic on the right ought to be worth something someday. In case you didn't tune in last year, the one in green is the first Philippine Idol. The rest of the girls are (from L to R) the two Pasig Idols, the Banawe Idol and the Cainta Idol. Hehehe.

you want fries with that?

Spoiler alert!

Was in the middle of watching The Departed on dvd. Was still thinking about a) why Leo, Matt and Mark look like triplets separated at birth, b) why they all sounded like Rob Mariano of Survivor All-Stars (and currently of Amazing Race All-Stars), c) why I should have watched Infernal Affairs first, and d) why Leo reminds me of McSteamy of Grey's Anatomy, when my sister offered me french fries for meryenda. Was about to take a bite off the first fry when SPLAT! a major character fell of a roof -- blood and brains spraying all over Leo. From that moment on, a lot of characters got shot at -- execution style. BANG! RATATATAT! BLAG! BANG BANG BANG! More blood, more gore.

Note to self: Make sure I eat first before watching a movie about the Mob.

Still managed to finish off the rest of the fries though. Was that hungry and the fries were that yummy. Hehehe.
Oh yeah, the movie was Oscar-worthy. Dream cast pa.

The Wonderful World of Pinoy Soaps

Those who have known me for a long time know that I tend to rant about cheesy Pinoy soaps. Well, here are some of my all-time favorite moments in Pinoy soap history.

Disclaimer: I may or may not be a fan of these shows. What do you think? Hehehe.

a) Bakekang - Just saw Bakeks with a white patch of cotton (or was it gauze) on her head. Mind you, her hair was pulled back in a bun but there was this thing on her perfectly coiffed head! Then I remembered she was in the hospital the other night. Ahhh.... so the white gauze was for her head injury. Oookay. And I thought hair only bleeds when you are trying to dye it. Then I remembered....
b) Some old soap on ch.7 a few years ago - Albert Martinez's character supposedly hurt his eyes. And so his eyes were covered by two round pieces of cotton. A long white strip of gauze was also wrapped around his head to keep the two cotton thingies in place. Found it so strange that he still wore a pair of really dark shades. He must have really hurt his eyes, huh.
c) Same soap, different rant - Angelika dela Cruz's character banged her head so many times in the soap. Ergo, she had amnesia several times. Ergo, everytime she had amnesia, she assumed a different character. I loved it!
d) Some other soap in ch.7 shown a few years ago -- Dingdong Dantes' character was trying to drown himself in a pool. I wondered how he would succeed in his attempt when both of his hands were holding on to the edge of the pool while his head was submerged in water. Genius!
e) Same soap, different rant - Tanya Garcia's character was running away from Dingdong who was chasing her all over the house. She quickly got inside the basket of a hot air balloon as it slowly rose from the ground. Then, after 20 feet or so, the hot air balloon stopped its ascent. Cut to a long shot of the hot air balloon which, apparently, was still attached to a spike on the ground via a 20-ft. long rope. Nice!

Nope, I am not a fan of ch.2 soaps either. Wait for them in succeeding posts. Hehehe!
Katuwaan lang ito ha.
